Surprise . . . Surprise . . . Scotland's Most Visited Tourist Venue Named
If you guessed that the most visited venue in Scotland was Edinburgh Castle, you would be incorrect. For the past two years Glasgow's
Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum was Scotland's most visited destination. Like all museums in Scotland, Kelvingrove is free to the public, making Scotland one of Europe's most affordable destinations for Americans.
Glasgow's many fabulous museums, architecture, shopping, and dining has really put the city on the map over the past decade. Room nights from America are up significantly also based in large part to the many flight options out of the city's convenient airport.
Kelvingrove is a real experience, a chance to explore fabulous works of art, historic exhibitions, and even natural history. Following a 3-year nearly $60 million restoration, Kelvingrove now has over 8,000 objects on display on three architecurally splendind floors. Some of the museums favorites include: masterpieces by Rembrandt and Titian; displays of weapons and stunning suits or armor; and Dali's Christ of St. John on the Cross.
Glasgow is also home to two charming Celebrated Hotels.
Hotel du Vin at One Devonshire Garden in the city's stylish West End is a perfect base for touring (and dining). While just outside of the city, closer to the airport is
Mar Hall, a grand home with a lovely spa on the Firth of Clyde.
