Glenlo Abbey's "Pullman Restaurant aboard the Orient Express" Celebrated 10th Anniversary

Glenlo Abbey, a warm, friendly hotel in Galway owned by the Bourke Family, is in the midst of celebrating a very big birthday.  But this birthday is not for a member of the hotel's excellent staff, it is for their amazing and unique Pullman Restaurant aboard the Orient Express, one of the most experiential and fun restaurants in Ireland.

The Pullman Restaurant has just turned Ten.  Located on the grounds of Glenlo Abbey Hotel is one of Ireland's truly unique dining experiences. Comprising two dining carriages and dating to 1927 , these rail cars were part of the original Orient Express and carried VIP's all over Europe and the UK during its life. The legendary Sir Laurence Olivier was one of these VIP's.

Leona is the name of one of the Glenlo Abbeys' two cars from the Orient Express.  1865 saw Leona's final journey when she was used as part of Winston Churchill's funeral cortege. After this event, Leona was retired from service, however in 1974 it returned along with other carriages to play a starring role in the classic, Murder on the Orient Express, that featured greats such as Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall and Sean Connery.

The Bourke Family purchased the rail cars in 1997 and the restaurant opened on the hotel grounds in 1998.  The Pullman Restaurant enjoys fabulous views of Lough Corrib and ironically is only about 300 meters away from the old track bed of the now lost Galway-Clifden railway line which was disbanded in the mid 1930's. The menu on the Pullman Restaurant reflects the destinations of the world famous train, The Venice Simplon Orient Express. While a Rack of Connemara Lamb is a very traditional main course, you can begin your meal with a selection of Oriental Appetizers & Sushi. The service is jovial and personal with Kevin Moran and his team looking after guests and the enthusiastic brigade of chefs serving up the Irish & Asian influenced cuisine.
